Core HOS Regulations
Understanding these fundamental rules is essential for every commercial driver. Master them to stay compliant and safe on the road.
This is the core driving limit. Once you've driven 11 hours, you must take a 10-hour break before driving again.
Your "driving window" starts when you begin any work activity. After 14 hours, no driving is allowed even if you haven't used all 11 driving hours.
The break can be satisfied with any non-driving period of 30 consecutive minutes (on-duty not driving, off-duty, or sleeper berth).
Carriers operating every day use the 70-hour/8-day limit. Others use 60-hour/7-day. A 34-hour restart can reset these limits.
